Diskussion:Linear optimization: Phases of the Simplex method 2

Hello, We read your wikientry and we have some positive and some negative points:

positives:

  1. Your entry is well structured and the table of contents allows you to jump where ever you want
  2. especially phase 2 is pretty well done and good to understand. You even explained the different methods of solution (Steepest-Unit-Ascent, Greatest Change)
  3. you used colours in the example which made it easier to understand. Therefore pivot-column/-row and the highlighted pivot-element were easily recognisable.

negatives:

  1. in some points it´s a little bit difficult to understand what you meant, because of your expression
  2. you didn´t use LaTeX for your mathematical formulas
  3. your chosen example isn´t the best example to explain the phases of the simplex because an intial infeasibility is not given. So we think you have chosen 2 in the row of instead of the better pivot-element (in our opinion) 5 in row . But then we recognized that because of your choice a negative right-hand-side and therefore an infeasible solution is created.
  4. also your tableau isn´t solved. You should have written down the final solution in phase 2

All in all your entry was understandable and one can learn about the different phases of the simplex

Your article is very well structured.

Even for students who are not familiar with linear optimization it is fairly easy to understand.

Nevertheless a native english speaker will have some problems reading your text.

For example in the part of Phase 0' you forgot the plural "s" for "case" in the first sentence.

or the preposition "to" in the sentence "Those variables are referred as..." > correct English would be "Those variables are referred TO as..."

And it is not "phase second". One would say "phase two.." or if you meant the second phase in your order "the phase in second place."

One also would not use the present progressive in the sentence "This approach is being continued..." in the bottom section of phase1. You could say "You continue this approach until..."

Do not get us wrong, your article is really good and most students will get what you wanted to say.

Kind regards

Hi, First of all, you choosed a very structured way which promotes orientation. All in all your entry is okay, but in my opinion it should be much more detailed. In think the information is correct. I like that you say how the problems can be solved very early. But for students, who are not very close to the topic, it will be even more complicated to understand, what you want to say. All in all, the main aspects of our task are done and it is okay Best regards Linear optimization: Mathematical formulations of problems presented in the course _2
